State Competition


WHAT:

Dance XL Texas State Championship is a competition showcasing the BEST partner dancers in Texas.  Dancers from every area of the state are invited to sign up for Phase 1: Couple Nominations. The Top 15-20 couples with most nominations will move on to Phase 2: Voting Round.  The top 10 couple from each region will be selected to represent their part of the state. Couples are competing as strictly partnerships and also their placements during competitions will contribute to the entirety of the regional team.  At the end of the competition, there will be 1 Top Region (the team that accumulated the most points) and 1 Top Couple, who will win the title of Texas ALL STATE Champion.

 This format will look similar to individual sports in the olympics. For example: Team USA is comprised of individual competitors who will compete as individuals as well as have their scores contribute to the overall team score.

WHO:

Any Texas residents are eligible for the competition with the exception of Dance XL instructors and judges will NOT be eligible for this State competition. 

WHEN/WHERE

The competition will take place over a series of 3 Days, April 21-23rd. Prelims will take place Friday April 21st at southern junction, Fortworth. Semi-Finals will take place Saturday, April 22nd, at Dance XL event, located at You Can Dance Dallas, Addison, TX.  The final round will take place Sunday, April 23rd, at Dance XL event, located at You Can Dance Dallas, Addison TX.

JUDGES: The judging staff will be comprised of 5-9  professional judges.

COACHES: The regional team coaches will be comprised of DXL instructors as well as other instructors across the USA. Each team will have in-person coaches who will be present at the event as well as coaches that will only take place in the virtual person.

FORMAT/STRUCTURE

PHASE 1 (Nomination): People will nominate the dancer(s) they want to see represent their region at Dance XL.  Phase 1 nominations begin Saturday March 11 and close Saturday March 25th. Dancers may nominate themselves for the regional representation. Each person may only nominate dancer(s) once but are welcome to nominate multiple different dancers.

PHASE 2 (Voting): The top 15-20 couples nominated from EACH REGION will move on to the next round. Names will be published and announced on KickStartCountryEvents.com as well as Dance XL social media platforms.  At that time, voting will be open to the public from March 26th-March 31st. Dancers will only be able to for for each couple, once. On April 1st, the 10 couples who received the most votes will represent 

PHASE 3 (PREPARATION): The top 10 couples from each region will be placed into a FB group together per region where they will be introduced to their coaches. The coach's role is to watch each couple (via video uploaded to FB group) and provide a little feedback on ways to enhance their dancing and performance. Regional teams are encouraged to select a name and decide on if they'd like to have a theme to what they wear during the preliminary competition. 

PHASE 4 (COMPETITION): 

Prelims: All 10 couples from each region will compete on Friday, April 21st, at Guitars and Cadillacs in  Fortworth, TX.  The top 5 strictly couples from each region will move on to the next round. All placements will have a score designated and each strictly couples placement score will be added to the regional team score. While all the couple are ultimately competing against the entire group, the top 5 scoring couples from each region will move to next round. This will look similar to individual sports in the olympics where.

Semi-Finals: The top 5 couples from each region will compete on Saturday, April 22nd, at Dance XL event. The top 2 strictly couples from each region will move on to the next round. All placements will have a score designated and each strictly couples placement score will be added to the regional team score. While all the couple are ultimately competing against the entire group, the top 2 scoring couples from each region will move to final round. This format will look similar to individual sports in the olympics. For example: Team USA is comprised of individual competitors who will compete as individuals as well as have their scores contribute to the overall team score.

Final Round: The top 2 couples from each region will compete on Sunday, April 23rd, at Dance XL event. The couple with the highest ranking will reeve the title of Texas ALL STATE Champion. The region with the must accumulated points will be named Top Region in Texas.

First place- 10 points 

Second place- 8 points 

Third place- 6 points 

4th place- 4 points 

5th place-2 points 

All finalists 1 point
